What does MiniMax Agent cover?
MiniMax Agent currently offers a desktop application and Agent Team workflows alongside web access. Its tools span research, websites and office deliverables. It should not be described as a browser-only service.
More AI is a free desktop agent with one Home/Cowork for questions, files and documents, and a separate Code workspace for repositories. Unified Home is available in desktop version 0.1.50 and later on macOS, Windows and Linux; earlier Chat conversations remain accessible. More AI is proprietary, not an open-source project.
Models, access and total cost
Read the current Agent billing screen and API terms separately. Bringing a compatible MiniMax model endpoint into another app, where supported, does not recreate the Agent Team product or transfer its included usage.
In More AI, BYOK usage is billed by your selected provider at its API price. The cloud subscription pays for execution and access, not model tokens; available cloud features are free during beta. A signed-in account may separately receive a limited promotional model allowance. Public credit purchase is not open. Count retries, tool calls and long context when estimating a task, not just one reply.

Evaluate the research-to-deliverable process: source discovery, evidence selection, a useful document and revisions. A generated website preview and an editable project are different outputs, so specify which one you need.
When to choose MiniMax Agent
Choose MiniMax Agent when its managed task environment and output tools already match the work and you want to configure fewer provider connections. Confirm credits, export formats and revision behavior on a small task before buying more usage.
When More AI is worth trying
Try More AI if the same task needs several supported model providers or must sit beside local documents and a repository workspace. Provider choice is useful only when the selected model can actually use the required tools and formats.
A practical trial before switching
Use a disposable copy of a real task and decide the acceptance criteria before starting. The following is a proposed test, not a claimed benchmark result.
- Ask both apps to compare three public products from supplied URLs and create a small decision document.
- Check publication dates, copied claims and whether each conclusion has a source. Mark unsupported statements as failures.
- Request a revision with a changed budget and retain the editable source files as well as the final export.
- Record app version, model/provider, settings, elapsed time, total API cost, retries and manual fixes. Inspect the final artifact; a completed run alone is not proof of a correct result.
More AI accounts and data handling
An account is optional for supported local desktop BYOK or local-model work. Signed-out work is not synced. After sign-in, supported sync categories start enabled in a new installation and can be disabled individually. Cloud execution is a separate control that starts off.
Local copies do not mean all processing stays on-device. Hosted requests go to the selected provider. AI observability can send bounded prompts, responses, reasoning and tool content by default, including BYOK; replay may see rendered content. Disable AI observability and general telemetry in Privacy as needed. A local model alone does not establish a fully offline workflow.

Is using a MiniMax model equivalent to using MiniMax Agent?
No. A model endpoint supplies inference. The agent product adds its own context, tools, orchestration and billing rules; results and features need separate evaluation.
Does More AI require an account?
An account is optional for supported local desktop work with your own key or model. Cloud features, supported sync and account-granted model allowances require sign-in.
Is More AI free?
The desktop app is free. BYOK model usage is separate. Available cloud features are temporarily free during beta; cloud is the subscription layer. This does not promise unlimited free tokens.
Does the same model produce the same result in both apps?
No. Context selection, instructions, tools, edit handling and retries affect quality and cost. Compare a completed task with the same model where supported, then test each app with its recommended setup.
